CONSULTANT IN CLINICAL RADIOLOGY WITH A SPECIALINTEREST ININTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY Royal Devon & Exeter and Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trusts This is a joint appointment between the two trusts which will build on the collaborative arrangements for delivering IR and vascular surgery to the population of Torbay and Exeter (c 650,000). The post holder will have contracts and IR sessions at both sites and will be required to perform both vascular and non-vascular interventions. A commitment to the general radiology workload of the departments would be desirable but is not essential. The on-call will cover both sites on a 1 in 6 basis. IR nurses and radiographers are on-call at both sites and the IR travels to the patient. There is no general radiology on-call commitment. The two units have a long history of joint working which commenced with a combined vascular surgical on-call service since 1999 and a joint IR on-call service since September 2010. A broad repertoire of gastrointestinal, biliary and renal interventions are undertaken at both units as well as a fibroid embolization service , various endo-venous procedures and embolotherapy for control of acute haemorrhage. Opportunities to develop any new skills will be encouraged. There is a healthy EVAR programme, with a total of 55-60 being performed each year. Smaller numbers of FEVAR and TEVAR are performed at Exeter. An AAA screening programme has been in place at Torbay since 2000 and at Exeter since 2012. There is a weekly joint MDT for discussion of complex vascular cases. The Exeter site has a departmental IR suite (Siemens Artis Zee with cone beam CT) with theatre-spec air filtration and anaesthetic facilities. 2 further C-arms one of which has DSA capability. 3 CT and 2 MRI scanners in the dept with work underway for a joint hospital/University 3T MRI unit. The Torbay site has a theatre based endovascular IR suite (Philips Allura with cone beam CT), 2 CT and 2 MRI scanners in the dept. Reconfiguration of the vascular service is ongoing, with vascular surgery moving to Exeter; however the majority of elective and emergency IR procedures will continue to be performed at both sites. Consultants in the department teach at the University of Exeter Medical School, there are between 10-14 radiology registrars across the 2 sites from the Peninsula Radiology Academy as well as a 6th year IR fellow. There are plenty of opportunities to engage with teaching and research is actively encouraged.
