An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a band 5 registered nurse to join our fracture clinic and plaster room teams. The department is busy but well supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team all aiming to provide high quality, patient-centred care.

As well as face to face clinics the department offers a virtual fracture clinic, physiotherapy-led clinics, specialist frame clinics, and supports a casting service in theatre and for plastic surgery. The plaster room also provide peripheral clinics so access to car is necessary.

Based within the world recognised Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre (PEOC) the successful applicant will be trained by experienced senior plaster technicians to care for patients with immobilised limbs quickly but safely working towards being able to apply a variety of casts independently. You will be expected to undertake and successfully complete the British Casting Certificate Course and it is recommended that you look into the requirements of this course before applying for this position.

An understanding of Diabetes, in particular diabetic neuropathy and experience in wound care including negative pressure dressings is desirable, in addition to an excellent comprehension of pressure ulcer prevention. The post holder will be expected to engage in health promotion to maximise recovery from injury, in addition to providing appropriate advice & education in cast care and therefore excellent communication skills are essential.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in orthopaedics and fracture management but experience in this speciality is not a necessity as full training will be given. Due to COVID-19 and potential departmental relocation suitable candidates must be able to accept and respond positively to change and be willing to adopt innovative ways of working.
