An excellent opportunity has arisen for a state registered radiotherapy physicist to join the Radiotherapy Physics team at the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will contribute to the continuing transformation of our Radiotherapy Physics group with involvement in QC and dosimetry, treatment planning, brachytherapy and commissioning.

This is an exciting time to join our radiotherapy team as work has finished on building a new bunker for our first TrueBeam linac, that is now under commissioning and due to start treating patients this spring. It is expected that the successful candidate will be involved both in the commissioning of the new linac as well as in all areas of radiotherapy physics in order to support the clinical service.

Our Oncology Centre currently houses three matched Varian IX LINACs, a Toshiba Wide Bore CT scanner and an Eclipse planning system to support the planning and delivery of external beam treatment. All linear accelerators are multimodality, dual energy and have CBCT capabilities. The department also has well-established VMAT and SABR programmes and a rapidly developing IGRT programme. We also have a Flexitron afterloader for HDR brachytherapy of gynaecological, prostate, oesophagus and skin treatments.

The post requires a methodical approach and high standards of workmanship. A sound knowledge of Quality Control procedures and tolerances for treatment machines and planning systems is essential.

Some out-of-hours work is expected and this is shared between all radiotherapy physicists on a rota system.

We welcome applications from those interested in a full time or part time position; applications from Individuals working towards HCPC registration are encouraged to apply.

For an informal conversation or to arrange a visit to the department, please contact Rosemary Hakes (Lead Physicist QC and Dosimetry, 01392 404577 rosemary.hakes@nhs.net), Rob Biggar (Lead Physicist Treatment Planning, 01392 404576 r.biggar@nhs.net), Jenny Wilson (Lead Physicist Brachytherapy, 01392 406447 jenniferwilson11@nhs.net) or Eduardo Villarreal (Head of Radiotherapy Physics, 01392 402127 eduardo.villarrealbarajas@nhs.net).
