CONSULTANT in Medical Oncology

Post 10 PA’s (Upper GI and Thoracic Oncology)

Applications are invited for this replacement full time post in Medical Oncology based in the Exeter Oncology Centre. This post is designed to replace a Medical Oncology consultant who covers lung and upper GI cancers in North Devon District Hospital and Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. They will also work alongside Prof C Thirlwell in the management of neuroendocrine cancers. The post holder will join existing colleagues in the relevant site specific areas and also share responsibility for the expansion of service development in these tumour sites. Although the post is based in Exeter it will require travel to other cancer units in the region, initially this will be to the North Devon Unit. All Consultants also contribute to the acute oncology service. You will join an enthusiastic team of 16 Consultants providing a full range of non-surgical cancer therapies to our local population. We work closely with colleagues in palliative care and patients have support from the FORCE centre and services throughout their cancer journey. There are numerous opportunities to develop individual research interests and an expectation that you will contribute to our existing trials portfolio.

Foundation status was awarded in 2004 and this has allowed greater freedom to work more closely with patients, carers and members of the local community to design and develop services that meet the needs of the people who use our hospital. The Trust has a strong track record of providing excellent patient care, financial delivery and staff satisfaction in the region.

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is a first-wave Foundation Trust that serves a population of 360,000 people from NHS Devon, with some specialist services serving in excess of 450,000.The Exeter Medical School affords exciting opportunities to participate in both undergraduate teaching and research. The historic cathedral city of Exeter is situated in the middle of the South West Region with easy access to the countryside and coast of Devon and Cornwall. It is well served by rail, road and air links.

Applicants must be registered medical practitioners and either be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of completion of specialist training at the date of interview; you should provide evidence of this with your application.
