The Radiotherapy department at the Exeter Oncology Centre is looking for a hard-working and highly motivated individual to join its team in a Radiotherapy Helper role.

The department uses highly specialised equipment to deliver treatment to over 2,000 patients per annum. It has three Varian iX Linear Accelerators which deliver external beam radiotherapy treatment, each treating up to 40 patients per day depending on the complexity of treatment. A Varian Eclipse planning system, Acuity simulator, Toshiba Wide Bore CT scanner and ProSoma virtual simulation form the pre-treatment and treatment planning sections of the department. Internal Brachytherapy is delivered using an HDR Flexitron unit. The department uses bespoke Radiotherapy scheduling, recording and verification software called ARIA and all bookings are managed via this system.

The Radiotherapy Helper role is varied and you will need to work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, including Radiographers and Consultants, to provide administrative and clinical support to the Radiotherapy service. You will have responsibility for the accurate registration, scheduling and appointing of patients on a Radiotherapy pathway, to include pre-treatment planning and treatment delivery. You will assist in the tracking of patients referred for Radiotherapy to ensure that waiting times targets are being met, and will enter information about appointments and decisions onto the Cancer Waiting Times tracking system. You will also be involved in supporting the clinical staff in the pre-treatment and treatment delivery areas of the department, which involves regular communication with both staff and patients. Relevant training will be provided for all of these tasks.

You need to be a highly organised individual who is able to process data accurately, is a team player with excellent communication skills and who is able to work under pressure at times.

The Radiotherapy service operates for extended working hours to ensure that all patients receive their treatment in a timely way, and there is an expectation that you will participate in shift pattern working to support service provision for the entire working day.
