This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join the Fracture clinic department within the RD&E Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be part of the Fracture clinic & Outpatient team and will be expected to work as an autonomous practitioner, providing all aspects of plaster techniques and support to outpatient clinics/satellite community clinics/ Orthopaedics theatres.

The successful post holder will be expected to competent in the following: Providing detailed clinical advice to patients after the splint or cast has been fitted, including telephone / e mail queries relating to issues with cast / Fracture.

Sound knowledge of complex wound care ideally including application of topical negative pressure dressings and care of Taylor frames / pin sites etc. Competent in the reading of Orthopaedic images, x rays must be checked prior to placement of cast.

Safe removal of casts. Ordering of appropriate supplies whilst having an awareness of the department’s budget. Update patients’ records ensuring appropriate care plans in situ and ensure that data is stored/ handled following Trust policy. Provide specialist support to Orthopaedic theatres and complex diabetic clinics when necessary, and work closely with the Trauma nurse practitioners.

Provide clinical leadership to junior staff within the Plaster room ensuring patient safety is maintained and high standards of care are provided, challenging any poor practice that is discovered and re-educating as necessary.

The post holder will support the efficient running of the plaster room and work directly with other departments within the Trust. They will ensure that the patients’ needs are met integrating high quality care in the most cost effective setting. The applicant will also ensure that all patients are fully informed of their proposed treatment plans and all questions fully answered.

The successful candidate will have a current valid Stanmore Certificate and extensive background and experience working in a plaster room. This post is for 30 hours per week and the department is open from Monday - Friday.   Our vision is to provide safe, high quality seamless services delivered with courtesy and respect.
